Overview

The Global Social Venture Competition (GSVC) began in 1999 as a student-led initiative at the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley. In May 2001, Columbia Business School and the Goldman Sachs Foundation partnered with Haas to extend the reach of the competition and help grow a national platform for social ventures. In June 2003, London Business School joined the competition partnership. This unprecedented partnership brought together the academic and financial worlds to support the creation of social ventures.

Currently, the Omidyar Network supports the running of the GSVC, with support from the Regional partners at the Columbia Business School, London Business School, Indian School of Business and Yale School of Management.

GSVC also welcomed new Outreach Partners from the University of Geneva and the Social Venture Competition Korea in 2006, and Thammasat University in 2007 before Thammasat University was promoted to be the regional partner for Southeast Asia Region in 2008.

In 2007, the Thammasat Business School (TBS) run the first GSVC in Southeast Asia, and fed the teams through the global final round at UC Berkeley. GSVC Southeast Asian Round is opening for executive summary submission until early January 2009. We welcome the plan from schools of will welcome plans from from business schools of Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Vietnam, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand.

Two winners from GSVC Southeast Asian will represent the region to compete with other finalists from business schools around the world at the Global Final Round will be held in at the Haas School of Business, USA in April 2009.
