The Solar Light Project
The Solar Light project has been created from the mission of GSVC-SEA to promote the growth of social ventures. The project involves having students at Thammasat University in both undergraduate and graduate level; raise donations for two important causes: to support the Global Social Venture Competition and to supply solar lights to villages without electricity around Southeast Asia where 200 million people do not have access to electricity.
We will supply solar lights to villages without electricity in Thailand and around Southeast Asia. These solar lights can be charged during the day and then used at night, enabling rural people to work longer, study longer, and break the cycle of poverty. The flashlights contain the latest-technology rechargeable batteries which are environmental-friendly and safe to be disposed. The LED lights do not harm eyesight when reading. For more information about the product, visit www.sunnightsolar.com
The lights will be distributed through local NGOs in Thailand, and international NGOs. Our pilot site will be at refugee resident areas in Tak Province, border between Myanmar and Thailand with the cooperation with International Labour Organization, UN.
For every Baht 1,000 that we raise, half of the money goes towards hosting the GSVC-SEA, while half is used to purchase and send a solar light to a rural village. There is no minimum donation-amount required.
